Does the species really matter for a rainscreen, or is it more about the install?

Trying to wrap my head around rainscreen siding. Everyone online argues about which species is best, but the more I read the more it seems like the install matters way more than the wood itself. Is that right? If I use a decent exterior rated species and give it a proper vented cavity behind it, am I basically fine, or is there really a species that makes or breaks it?
