How do you actually get wood cladding to last 30 years without babysitting it?
Trying to spec cladding that'll still look good in 30 years without a constant maintenance routine. From what I keep coming back to, the trick is a stable, durable wood installed over a proper rainscreen, and the species honestly matters less than the install once you're in that durable range. The modified woods like Accoya and thermally modified ash are appealing because they barely move and skip the refinishing cycle. I spec from a specialty hardwood supplier since they carry the options and do the milling and finishing in one place. Lock in species and lead time early, the good material isn't sitting on a shelf.
