Sapele as exterior siding, what's it actually like to live with?
For anyone weighing sapele as siding, here's my honest take after living with it. It holds up well outside but it's not a set and forget wood. You'll be refinishing it every few years if you want to keep that reddish color, otherwise it just weathers out. It's harder and more decay resistant than any softwood, but you have to detail it to drain because trapped water will eventually get it. I got mine from a specialty hardwood supplier and they were straight about the maintenance instead of pretending it lasts forever. Anyone here just let theirs go gray?
