Is cypress actually the best siding choice for coastal? I'm 200 yards from the ocean in SC and getting mixed signals.
Building on Kiawah Island, SC. Lot is 200 yards from the ocean, heavy salt air, high humidity year-round, hurricanes. Everyone locally defaults to cypress for siding but I'm seeing some 10-year-old cypress homes nearby that look rough, peeling paint, gray streaking, some soft spots. Is cypress actually the move here or am I better off with something harder? Budget allows for premium material. The house is 3,400 sf of siding. What would you spec if money wasn't the primary concern but longevity was?
