Custom siding profiles: how does ordering actually work? First time doing this

Architect spec'd a non-standard siding profile for a residential project, essentially a modified channel with a 15° back-cut and a 3/8" reveal. Nobody stocks this. How do I actually get custom milled siding? Do I need thousands of linear feet to make it worthwhile? What's the process?
